Did you know that... A single spruce root basket discovered on Prince of Wales Island was radio carbon dated to about 6,000 years old—the oldest known basket on the Northwest coast. However, most baskets seldom survive in the archaeological record, as they are made from perishable materials. Such materials are only found in the driest or wettest conditions.
